IVF / IUI

At Yin Wellness Brisbane, we support all stages of IVF (Assisted Reproductive Technology/ART) including preparation and preconception care (focusing on improving both the egg and sperm quality), egg retrievals, reciprocal IVF, IUI, fresh and frozen embryo transfers.  We also use acupuncture to assist with the various side effects of IVF medications; eg abdominal tenderness, hot flashes, digestive complaints, fluctuating emotions, fatigue, insomnia, and the management of stress and anxiety that can come with the fertility process.

We are open six extended days a week to ensure availability to those working with the changing dates and times of IVF procedures.

Fertility Acupuncture

A growing number of people in Australia are affected by infertility, however, you don’t have to be experiencing fertility issues to seek fertility acupuncture support. We support all stages of the natural fertility cycle. You may be looking to prepare your body for pregnancy, or have been trying for some time and considering IVF. Wherever you are, we want to support you.

When trying naturally, we first look at your menstrual cycle and any irregularities or imbalances to improve your chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy pregnancy. With Chinese medicine, we also delve a little deeper into other bodily functions.  We will want to know about your sleep patterns, your energy levels, your digestive system, and anything else with your health that may seem a little out of balance.

For those who have been trying for a while, we encourage you to have full investigations to ensure there are no underlying issues on both the egg and sperm side. We also work with diagnoses of endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS, amenorrhoea (no periods), and other inflammatory or hormonal health conditions that can impact fertility. We also love to work with male partners (or sperm donors).

Pregnancy Acupuncture

We support our pregnant clients through all stages of pregnancy. In the earlier stages, we often treat nausea (morning sickness), fatigue, and emotional support through the first trimester. Other common complaints we see are back, hip, and pelvic pain, breech presentation, heartburn (indigestion or reflux), digestive complaints (including constipation or hemorrhoids), and insomnia.

Labour Preparation

In the month leading up to the due date, we support our clients with labour preparation treatments to help relax the mother and prepare for birth. We focus on using points to soften and dilate the cervix, relax the ligaments, calm the mind and reduce the pain and duration of labour (1).

Postpartum Support

“The Golden Month” is respectfully taken in Chinese culture as thirty days to recover from pregnancy and labour. Both pregnancy and labour are very taxing for a woman, and the thirty days are encouraged so that the new mum can recover and restore Qi and Blood. Here in Western culture we often feel the need to hit the ground running with many internal and external pressures.

We encourage mothers (and families) to rest as much as possible during this period.  We focus on lifestyle and dietary advice to complement your acupuncture treatments, looking to build your energy to help breastfeeding, recover from birth, improve sleep and decrease stress.

Emotional Wellbeing

In Chinese Medicine, we see mental health as being just as important as physical health. We will always chat about what emotion you tend towards (whether it be worry, fear, grief and frustration and anger), this can change day to day, however, most of us have a dominant emotion (other than all the great emotions we experience!)

We see people for emotional well-being related to fertility and pregnancy but also as stand-alone treatments.  When we look at someone’s emotional well-being, we look to identify and improve typical stress-related complaints such as anxiety, sleep disorders, insomnia, headaches, and fatigue.

Hormonal Health

Although we have a focus on fertility and pregnancy patients, many of the fundamentals for these treatments lie with hormonal health. So, even if you are not trying to conceive or pregnant, we are well versed in hormonal health complaints such as dysmenorrhea (painful periods), irregular cycles, PCOS, endometriosis, adenomyosis, thyroid conditions, premenstrual symptoms (including pain, bloating, changes to appetite, irritability, breast tenderness or distention and skin changes), perimenopausal symptoms (hot flashes, irritability, irregular emotions).

The HeathDirect website (https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/acupuncture) recognises that: acupuncture may help relieve common types of pain including: neck and shoulder pain, headaches and migraines and fibromyalgia.
